Now, many of these restaurants have a wide variety of cuisine, so calling them "German restaurants" is a little deceptive. But if you want to find wiener schnitzel, spätzle, or potato pancakes, these are pretty much your only options.

I believe Helmer's in Hoboken has reopened. On the bus ride home last night, the boarding was all down, it was lit up inside, and there were people. Plus a big banner out front saying something about the Italian Festival.

I have a coupon for Top Notch in Madison somewhere. I had no clue that there was a German section of their menu.

Black Forest in Allentown is BYOB? Surprising. How can you have a German restaurant w/o beer?!

Allentown is pretty strict, laws-wise. Wouldn't surprise me if they had too many problems getting a liquor license.

Closed anyway, now. Mitch and I went to have dinner there one Saturday and, *poof*, the sign was down and it was gone.

I miss the Rock Oak Lodge in Sparta Glen

A place full of Teutonic Gemutlichkeit. Sadly, it closed after a dishwasher killed the owner's partner over less than $50.

Sadly, the Triangle Hofbrau closed in November. Otherwise, very helpful list!

Ah, well, I've eaten there and it wasn't very German. Frankly, you need to have more than two German items on your menu to call yourself a "Hofbrau" restaurant. Not to mention which, they had very little beer.

See, that's just sad. They should have rebuilt -- there's not enough German restaurants as it is!

Re: German Restaurant NJ

Okay, I'll add it; but having one special a week doesn't really qualify as a "German restaurant" in my opinion. Still, we have so few choices in NJ, I'll take it!
